The article is devoted to the study of monological ways of interpreting and solving the internal conflict of a character in the stream of consciousness. The concept is defined and the phenomenon of stream of consciousness is characterized as a special type of monologue of a character in a literary text. The features of the verbalization of mental activity and psychology of the character by the stream of consciousness are highlighted, such as continuity, density, passivity, randomness and associativity. Examples of the stream of consciousness of the main character Herman in V. V. Nabokov's meta-novel "Despair" are selected and linguistic expressions and means of implementing and solving internal conflicts of the character are analyzed. Oppositional parameters are revealed in the stream of consciousness: priori / posteriori, one's own / someone else's, individual / social, abnormal / normative and abnormal decisions of the character. The monological methods and linguistic means of expressing and solving the internal conflict in the stream of consciousness of the character are generalized.
