CHANGING THE CONTENT OF TEACHING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TO MILITARY PILOTS AS A PEDAGOGICAL CONDITION FOR THE GENDER APPROACH IMPLEMENTATION

The article is devoted to the study of the gender approach in education and its application to teaching a foreign language to cadets at Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots (KVVAUL). It provides a theoretical justification for the essence of gender teaching, the goals and objectives of which are as follows: the rejection of stereotypes and restrictions related to the peculiarities of the sexes, and the creation of favorable conditions helping to reveal the students’ educational potential and use their abilities in the future profession. Statistic data on the number of women in the armed forces and the results of a survey on the attitude towards a woman in the profession of a military pilot conducted among KVVAUL cadets are presented. The authors analyze the educational materials used in teaching a foreign language from the standpoint of the gender approach, and give examples how the content of the academic subject Foreign Language, the organization of individual work, the use of innovative educational technologies contribute to the fostering of a tolerant attitude towards a woman in the traditionally ‘male profession’ of a military pilot.
