The article is devoted to the use of authentic material in the process of formation of
foreign language competence of adult learners.
It is noted in the work that one of the means that increases the efficiency of foreign
language teaching is the systematic use of authentic materials.
Authentic material contributes to the effective mastering of language and linguistic
cultural material by students, increases the level of practical knowledge of a foreign
language and thus serves to improve their communicative skills.
Authentic materials contribute to the understanding of the social, economic and
historical background of the country which language is being studied, the logic of its
political events.
The use of authentic materials allows creating to a certain extent an artificial foreign
language environment, which is very important when learning a foreign language.
