The article presents the results of a study of the practical activities of the Soviet prosecutor's office during the New Economic Policy in the field of protecting and ensuring the legal rights and interests of citizens. Based on significant factual material contained in the publications of the Weekly of Soviet Justice, the human rights practice of the prosecutor's office and its officials in the areas of general and judicial supervision is characterized. The work of the prosecutor's office with complaints from citizens, activities in the field of protection of labor and property rights, and the practice of prosecutorial protests against mandatory resolutions of local government bodies containing provisions that are contrary to the law are analyzed. The effectiveness of prosecutorial supervision over the activities of investigative and inquiry bodies is characterized. The conclusion is formulated that in the 1920s the prosecutor's office was an effective factor preventing repressive policies and this circumstance ensured its authority among the population.
