The article deals with the concept of sociolect in foreign and domestic sociolinguistics. The English sports sociolect of team sports and its components are analyzed: professionalisms and slang. The thematic groups of the English sociolect of team sports are identified taken basketball as an example. The lexical components of the English sports sociolect are constantly enriched by the internal resources of the language, extralinguistic factors and sociolinguistic aspects.
