The purpose of the presented study is to identify the main problems of school environmental education, to identify areas for improving its effectiveness. The article notes the insufficient correspondence of the meta-subject learning outcomes required by the Federal State Educational Standards in the field of the formation of environmental thinking to the amount of time required to implement this task. The problems of the content of environmental education are characterized, illustrating its insufficient adaptation to the needs of nature conservation, the preservation of natural benefits for future generations of people. The necessity of strengthening the intersubjectivity of environmental education, giving it a value-oriented character in accordance with the paradigm of partnership between man and nature, orientation of environmental education towards understanding the prospects of socio-natural development is substantiated.
