this article examines Russian and Italian phraseological units and expressions of spoken speech of native speakers of these languages, reflecting the shortcomings of human character through the prism of the animal world, based on the material of the original author's card file. The linguistic and cultural analysis and linguistic images motivating the meaning of these units are given. The article reveals the idea that the phraseological units we are considering reflect a unique way of imaginative thinking, culture and psychology of the people. To express the same concept, these languages resort to different images. However, in Italian and Russian there is a group of literal or very similar phraseological equivalents in semantics.
