This article is devoted to the problems of scientific analysis in modern conditions of the value structure and the «social portrait» of modern youth – in relation to the tasks of broadcasting terminal values and ideals to young recipients. In this context, the evolution of scientific views on the «specifics of the youth environment» is considered: from the ideas of the Soviet era about youth as a «grateful audience» for universal «scientifically literate» educational methods to the modern complex diversity of views on youth and on the prospects of instilling in them the desire to serve universally recognized moral ideals. It is emphasized that universalist ideas of any type about the youth environment (including the concept of «total pragmatism of youth») contradict both modern approaches of «social heterology» (Kerimov et al.), as well as numerous results of various empirical studies. In particular, there is empirical evidence indicating the growing interest of representatives of modern youth in spiritual values and their commitment to spiritual and moral traditions. The above circumstances allow us to hope for the emergence, with God's help, of «windows of opportunity» for the successful transmission of spiritual ideals and values to young people within the framework of Orthodox missionary and socio-cultural and educational activities.
Keywords:societal values, terminal values, «window of opportunity», social heterology, «insolubilities», «librarianship», «heterotheticism».
