CORRELATION OF THE DEFINTIONS “EGOCENTRISM” AND “EGOISM”: SURVEY’S ANALYSIS

The article analyzes the results of the questionnaire survey aimed at detecting a naive linguistic understanding of the concepts of "egocentrism" and "egoism" and their connotations which exist in naive language picture of the world. The analysis revealed the existence of an ambivalent view among the interviewed Russian speakers, the dominance of a negative evaluation of both concepts, vagueness of definition. According to the results, the most common differential features are the speaker's intention / unintention, the speaker's self-orientation / focus on others, causing / not causing harm to others.
