The article discusses the theoretical foundations and practical conditions for the introduction and implementation of the principle of student-centered learning in the study of foreign languages in higher education institutions and secondary schools, analyzes the functions of a teacher in the student-centered process, and notes that subjectivity, personal growth and self-development of an individual are the basis of this direction of pedagogy. The variants for technologies, methods and techniques of student-centered learning are given. The article also presents the results of approbation of modern teaching methods that stimulate the interest of students, develop the desire to practically use a foreign language and really involve the student in the learning process. All these technologies were used by the students of Bryansk State University during their practical teaching practice in schools of Bryansk city. Recommendations for the successful implementation of best practices in the daily work practice of teachers and foreign language teachers are formulated.
