TRANSLATION OF STYLISTICALLY REDUCED VOCABULARY IN MODERN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE FICTION (BASED ON THE EXAMPLE OF M. WICKHAM'S NOVEL "COCKTAILS FOR THREE")

This article examines the features of the use of stylistically reduced vocabulary in the work of the famous British author of romantic comedies and women's fiction Madeline Wickham "Cocktail for three". The paper explores the obscene language used in the novel in order to understand the role it plays in shaping the narrative, character development and reader engagement. In addition, the authors of the article consider the methods of translating the reduced vocabulary used in the novel into Russian. By critically analyzing the linguistic choices of such a popular author as M. Wickham, this study contributes to broader discussions about the ethics and aesthetics of using obscene language in modern English-language literature and how to translate it. The authors conclude that the stylistically reduced vocabulary in the studied work of fiction serves to express the expression characteristic of the speech of the characters in the novel.
