The article attempts to trace in a diachronic perspective the speech situations of two verbal-nominal forms with indicators -mak and -ma that are important for the modern Turkish language. The analysis is carried out on the material of two literary monuments of the Ottoman language, which is the predecessor of Turkish. The study showed that the form -mak is no longer used with possessive affixes and the genitive case, but everything can also be used in other case forms, it is also combined with postpositions and used with the words gerek (girek), lazım. Another substantive form -ma has not yet taken over the functions lost by the form -mak, as in modern Turkish.
