The project of modernization of the Vyshnevolotsky watershed, proposed in 1719 by M.I. Serdyukov, provided for the creation of several channels between the Shlina and Tsna rivers through Klyuchinsky and Gorodolyubsky lakes, as well as bypassing the "ringed" places on the Tsna. At the end of the first stage of the reconstruction of the Vyshnevolotsky watershed, M.I. Serdyukov came to the conclusion that it was necessary to build an unplanned canal, named Serdyukovsky, and then Tsninsky. The background, progress and completion of the construction of this canal are of scientific interest in the field of the history of the construction of the Vyshnevolotsk water system. The role of other specialists in the design and construction of the canal, as well as the start and end dates of work, remains unknown.
Purpose: to examine in detail and describe the process of building the Tsninsky Canal in Vyshny Volochok and to identify the construction features and the names of the engineers involved in the construction of the canal.
Task: identification in archival collections and analysis of sources of information on the construction of the Tsninsky canal.
