The article discusses issues related to the possibilities of expanding economic cooperation between the USSR and China. The aim is to explore the possibilities of economic cooperation between the USSR and China. Research methods: the method of analysis, comparison, logical reasoning. The article notes the evolutionary nature of the development of economic cooperation between the USSR and China. For the USSR, the development and maintenance of economic ties with China was beneficial from the point of view of the existence of an important strategic partner and a channel for saturation of the consumer market. For China, the partnership with the USSR was beneficial in terms of the availability of natural resources and technologies for their processing. In the context of the narrowing of the Soviet domestic market, China was a reliable support for its replenishment with scarce goods and services. In this period of time, there is not only an economic transformation of attitudes, but also a change in the mentality of peoples. There has been a rethinking of many values in society for the culture of the two peoples. This contributed to the unity of ideological views, public positions and business economic ties. The author considers the main directions of the strategic development plan, which formed the future opportunities for expanding economic cooperation between the USSR and China.

Conclusions: The restoration of Soviet-Chinese economic relations in the period from 1985-1991 was not accidental. The reason for this was the evolution of the development of social processes, rethinking the interests of the two peoples and finding common ground. This period of time is characterized by the active development of economic cooperation between the USSR and China, which contributed to the expansion of opportunities for the development of trade and economic ties in the future. In addition, it helped to eliminate the causes and threats to the destruction of many industries, their preservation, including the preservation of jobs.
