THE WAYS OF TRANSLATION A.P. CHEKHOV’S OCCASIONAL PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS INTO ENGLISH REFLECTING PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS (BASED ON THE TRANSLATIONS OF THE PLAY “THE CHERRY ORCHARD”)

This article is devoted to the ways of translation A.P. Chekhov’s occasional phraseological units reflecting personal characteristics from Russian to English. The purpose of the study is to identify the main translational patterns in the translation of the above phrases, based on the material of the play “The Cherry Orchard”. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time a comparative study of six translations of the play in the period from 1909 to 2015. In the course of the research, the author identified the occasional phraseological units in the original of the play, considered the ways for their translation into English, and conducted a comparative analysis of translation solutions.
