Categorical apparatus of inter-ethnic relations: problem of term choice

In papers devoted to national issues, both in Russia and abroad, the authors use terminology, containing terms such as "nation", "ethnicity", "minority", etc. Often one and the same phenomenon gets its name by various researchers. This problem is largely caused by the looseness of the basic concepts in the legal framework of the state. Thus, there is empowerment of the selected concepts proper, transfer, or a combination of the meanings of other definitions. The paper presents a review of the basic terms used in the literature on ethnic relations with a brief description of each of them, and attempts to identify the relations adopted by matching definitions.
