The article discusses some features of synonyms and similar words of the Chinese language. The paper provides examples (with translation), with the help of which the authors explain the choice of the word "popular" when translating into Chinese. The material for the study was the work of Chinese, Soviet and Russian linguists, as well as materials from the Chinese media. This work can help students studying Chinese in mastering the syntax of the Chinese language.
