This article examines the issue of studying and protecting various monuments of architecture, culture, and folk life on the territory of the city of Ryazan and the Ryazan region. It tells about which organizations dealing with these issues operated in the region in the early years of the establishment of Soviet power. The history of organizations, their main goals and objectives, the most important activities, including publishing, are described. A separate part of the article is devoted to outstanding members of these associations: archaeologists, local historians, ethnographers.
