The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the existing higher education system in Russia and the key directions for reforming the field of higher education in the near future. The basis for qualitative changes in the state is determined by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "On Some Issues of Improving the Higher Education System", which was reflected in the report of the Minister of Science and Higher Education V. Falkov at the 569th plenary session of the Federation Council. It is noted that substantial work on the modernization of the system has begun in a number of Russian universities by optimizing the structure and content. The expediency of a three-stage higher education system is noted, taking into consideration the necessity of defining levels as completed cycles and ensuring their continuity. A possible scheme for comparing the qualification levels of the existing and new higher education systems in Russia is presented. The importance of modernizing education is emphasized as a prerequisite for creating individual trajectories of vocational training.
